About
Who I am
I'm Aryn, an Embedded Software Engineer based in County Down, Northern Ireland. Currently in my final year of a BSc (Hons) Computing Science degree at Ulster University, I balance full-time development at Laser Electronic Systems Ltd with building my own projects from the ground up.
At Laser I work across the full stack — from low-level hardware interfacing on Raspberry Pi to Spring Boot backends and React frontends. I've built systems that bridge the physical and digital world, including Red Hot Monitor, an IoT platform that tracks real-time data from casino machine PCBs through to a live web dashboard.
I'm driven by the craft of building things that actually work — clean architecture, thoughtful design, and software that solves real problems. Outside of code you'll find me hiking the Mourne Mountains or working on my next side project.

Selected WorkEmpire Poker
A full rebuild of a legacy Z80-based poker gaming machine from scratch on Raspberry Pi using Java and LibGDX.
Red Hot Monitor
After the "AJ" project was scrapped before it even went into production, Laser decided to bring it back. Rebuilt from the ground up using Java and Raspberry Pi.

A Chrome extension that helps 2nd and 4th year students find placements and grad roles that match their tech stack.
AJ Studio
A local web design business targeting County Down businesses, offering brochure sites and monthly retainer packages.
AJ-CCTalk & AJ-PW
The original machine monitoring system built at 16 for a client operating bookies across Ireland. Two versions — CCTalk via hex readout and Pulse via mechanical meters — both sending data via email through a Raspberry Pi.

Founded Eyretel Labs, a sole trader company operating two divisions. AJ Studio focuses on web design for local businesses across County Down, offering brochure websites and monthly retainer packages. Empire Gaming is the software division, currently building Empire Poker, a full recreation of a legacy casino poker machine rebuilt from the ground up in Java and LibGDX, targeting Raspberry Pi hardware.

Working as an Embedded Software Engineer at Laser Electronic Systems Ltd, a family-owned casino gaming machine business operating across Ireland. My work spans the full stack, from low-level hardware interfacing on Raspberry Pi via GPIO, to Spring Boot backends and Next.js dashboards. Key projects include Red Hot Monitor, a real-time IoT monitoring platform that reads pulse data from gaming machine PCBs and displays live stats on a web dashboard.

On the frontend I worked with React and TypeScript, and on the backend I used Java, Spring Boot, Kafka and Oracle DB. Hardware & Software Engineer

My first role at Laser, taken on at age 16. Worked on gaming machine hardware and software, gaining hands-on experience with embedded systems from a very early age. This role sparked my passion for the intersection of hardware and software engineering and led directly to the AJ-CCTalk and AJ-PW monitoring projects built for a client across Ireland.
